I was using mason jars on my counter to hold my staples such as flour, sugar as kitchen counter canisters. I needed something larger but I loved my jars so I decided to go buy jars a lot bigger. But I had an idea. I love bird houses. Why not decorate the jars with bird houses to make my canisters.
To make this craft get large mason jars and go to the wooden dollar section of any craft store. I wanted to do four.
First cut off the string on top of the bird houses.
You can fill in the wholes with wood filler. I was going to do that myself but honestly as I began to do this project I did not check my supplies well before hand and my wood filler was too dried up and would not work well. That is ok. I am learning the beauty of imperfection lately. I might use some of the tiny wholes later to stick a tiny bird in it or something.
Next spray paint your bird houses or hand paint them. I painted mine with left over spray paint colors I had on hand in my shop. I wanted to keep this country decor project cheap.
I took crafting paint to accent the country bird houses after they dried. I wanted some of the unique features of each house to have more of a pop.
Next you can leave them as is or take sanding paper and scuff them up. It gives your country decor a weathered look easily.
Next hot glue your houses to the mason jar lids. How tight for 60 seconds for each clued lid to secure them tight.
That's it. This is an easy craft to do in one day. Never pick your mason jar up by the bird houses but by the sides of the jar to ensure the hold of your craft. Enjoy!
