Get Organized: A Cleaner Home Begins with a Cleaning Kit!
Does this sound familiar? You’re ready to clean your home. You’ve worked up the energy, you’ve set aside the time, you’ve kicked the kids out of the house, now you just have to do it.
And you could “just do it,” but there’s one small problem. All your cleaning stuff is scattered around the house in closets and cupboards, under sinks and in the basement. Everything is everywhere and you’re not even sure you have everything you need to get the job done. Frustrating!
Maybe you’ll just forget about cleaning today. Sounds like a lot of work.
We’re dealing with a couple of easily fixable problems here: 1) The Wrong tools, 2) Disorganized tools
1) The Wrong Tools: STOP USING A BUTTERKNIFE WHEN YOU REALLY NEED A SCREWDRIVER
Moms have to be resourceful. I’m pretty proud that I can fix almost anything with a needle and thread, a roll of duct tape, a coffee mug, and a butter knife.
In fact, I just fixed the lock on my house with a butter knife the other day. It worked like a charm.
But here’s the deal. Even though I can totally use a butter knife as a screwdriver for small jobs, I know that bigger jobs will go a lot faster if I put down that butter knife and just use a for real screwdriver!
The point is, you need to have the right tools for the job. Nothing more, nothing less.
And you need to have the right cleaning supplies for the job. Nothing more, nothing less.
And I’m guessing that like most people you have all sorts of cleaning products lying around. Some practically empty, others you don’t even like to use because they smell weird, and still others that you might not know quite how to use. And how ironic that this hodge podge of CLEANING products usually just makes a mess in the cabinet under your sink?
2) Disorganized Tools: STOP RUNNING LAPS AROUND YOUR HOUSE
Awhile back, I had the pleasure of helping a family get their home ready to put on the market. After a long and difficult search, they had found their NEW home, a place where their family could grow and flourish.
Problem was, they needed to sell their CURRENT home. It really wouldn't be a problem at all. They live in a great area and their house is SUPER charming. The REAL problem was going to be whipping the house in to shape so it would show at its best and sell in a snap.
I was helping with bathrooms and kitchens and mom and dad were taking care of this and that around the house. But it was sloooooooow work.
Of course, the sweet little kiddos needed to be taken care of all throughout the process. And in addition to cleaning, some stuff had to be thrown out and other stuff needed to be packed away. A LOT OF DECISIONS needed to be made in a short period of time.
Mom was running laps around the house…upstairs, downstairs, to the basement, outside, inside, snacks and potty time…and on and on. The responsibilities never end.
The result? By the time I left after several hours, mom felt like she had accomplished little, still had an overwhelming amount of work to do, and wasn't quite sure how to tackle it calmly and systematically.
Do you ever feel like you’re just running laps around your home, spending hours cleaning and still not getting it all done?
If you put together a simple cleaning kit, you will have all the right tools and you will have them organized and at your fingertips. Then, you can just clean room by room and FLY through the job!
After years as a professional home cleaner helping families get and stay NEAT, I’ve created a simple list of everything you need to clean your home from top to bottom. Follow this checklist and you will have the right tools for the job ready to go whenever the mood to clean strikes!
