Cate & Chloe was so super sweet to send me their VIP Subscription box to review.
It was neat getting this box at home. Subscription boxes are just down right fun to get in my opinion. You don't know what will be in the Cate & Chloe boxes but the style test you do ahead of time will help them decide what will go into the box.
With the VIP box you get a freebie goodie each month. Who doesn't like those!
The presentation of the box is cute and darling. I love how each piece comes in a draw string bag or a reusable ribbon box.
Now when I got my box I did not like the neck choker necklace I had received
( not pictured above). I had done the test ahead of time at the site but for some reason it messed up on that. I like conservative pieces. So I contacted them and they sent one more my style. It is this sweet v bar necklace. I love it. So if you get a piece you do not like simply let them know. They will send you a prepaid envelope to mail it back at no cost to you! I like a company who offers satisfaction to you without penalizing you.
These earrings are something different for me. But I like them I needed to switch things up a bit. I needed something more young & trendy in my life. I could see any age wearing these. In these shots I just had a plain black T-shirt but I know some other outfits with more personality these would look great with. I guess these are going to be able to pull double duty. Dress up or down.
The ring is simply gorgeous. I typically like sliver or rose gold but to have some stunning pieces like these in my collection is a must. They are to pretty not to like and I will use them this summer. This picture below for some reason makes me think of Ireland.

So ladies. We do so much for those we love in our life. Treat yourself. You will really feel like a VIP with Cate & Chloe. I think they are a great company and recommend them. Hey, psst.... this would make a great gift for someone too! Remember they have a style test at Cate & Chloe so if you know what they would like you can't go wrong.
And ha the haha. I don't normally take pictures of myself but this time I did it with one of those silly ol' selfie sticks. It was kinda fun trying to navigate. It seemed the birds were really hanging around me singing up a storm as they watched me. They probably thought what is that silly human doing? We want that shiny bling bling for our nest so give it up lady. It ain't happening little birdies my Cate & Chole is all mine.
I love mineral and powder full coverage foundations. You can layer them as little or as much as you want. Your totally in control. But the price of our favorite powder or mineral foundations are just to much.
In order to preserve your makeup investment you can make it last longer. Or take some of your old compacts that have a little left and grow it to make that dollar go further.
What you will need:
I can not tell you how much corn starch or cacao powder to use in this because each persons blend will be different. I would start with what is left of your compact or all of it if it is full. Start maybe adding a full heaping table spoon of corn starch.
Actually add as much powder as you want to make the size batch you desire. Start adding the cacao as you think you will need last. Go light on it you can always slowly make it darker as needed and build it up to your skin shade or desired glow. Sample a little as you blend each shade until you get what you want. If your testing it as you go you will get it right! Do not worry. Just make sure your sampling a tiny bit thats been blended well.
As you see next the colors all stand out at first but you must grind and mix well until you see no other color run. Take a look at how dark the below picture is compared to the next one where the powders are all well blended. Do you see all the colors running? At first your mixture will be darker but do not fear it will lighten as you blend.
Now look at the finished product! It was my perfect shade. You should apply your makeup as you go along and test it until it is built up to your desired shade. You will be surprised even if fair skinned how much cocoa powder you will actually need. As you grind it together It will blend well and give you such a fantastic natural glow.
I have found that this blend helps with oily skin. It also does not dry out the face. I have combination skin so I was a great tester! This will be perfect for summer too. It is build-able on your face and as light or heavy as you wish. I have sensitive skin and this does not break me out. Just simply clean makeup.
I suggest storing it in a small glass bowl to keep it clean from plastics inevitable toxins.
This will transform that expensive compact to a much high volume longer use. Your in control and it feels great to make your own makeup and save so much money.
Be frugal and look good while doing it!
I was recently invited to a VIP Party at Peachy Keen & Joint Venture Jewelry. I want to check them out so off I went to have a mom's night out. First thing I noticed was some cute clothing I just had to browse through out on the boardwalk.
I love learning about local businesses and why did they create their business. Peachy Keen & Joint Venture is a family owned business. The parents owned a vintage jewelry consignment store & now run that along side their children's business of the Peachy Keen Boutique. One half is the jewelry store the other half the clothing boutique. I thought it was simply charming & honorable they have their family history hanging on the wall proudly. So sweet!
I love family business! Every one is involved the mom, the daughters & even the dad!
What better way than to spend an evening having much needed mom time seeking out a new treasure or two for your wardrobe. Here are the highlights of my night.

I saw some pretty towels at the Dollar Tree. I thought I would love to sew a craft out of them. I wanted a cute little summer throw backpack for a few light things like a water bottle, a book & sunglasses. These Dollar Tree microfiber towels are thick & cute just the right ones for this.
Make sure you get the thicker wider ribbon. This bag I have tested with a water bottle, light book, sunglasses and a few more things it holds well! This is the perfect summer bag to grab & go to sit by the pool. You could use this for so many other things too like transporting a knitting project & such.
Recently you saw I attended the Southern Women's Show. At the show I met a lot of fantastic vendors but there are a few that really stood out to me. They are the Mom -N-Pop vendors who really touched my heart as I got to know each one. I had promised a series of reviews displaying these vendors and their fabulous products. I love made in the USA and love to support local business. It just thrills me to put my money back into my local community!
I got to try out Dixie Dreamin's T-shirt line and hand made soy candles. I was so grateful.
I was so pleased with the candles. They are soy and so much better for you to breath in than those carcinogenic loaded ordinary lead wick candles you buy. Valerie makes these her self. Hand made with pride. I love the fine balance of scent, long lastingness and value. I love that they are not over bearing and would make great gifts for sensitive sniffers! They only draw back is if you want the scent to float all through out the house this is not the candle because it is light and for the room your in.
Now I love North Carolina. I was super excited to try out their super duper soft cotton home state T. It is just the shirt relaxing Saturdays are made of. It has been so very durable so far and is such a joy to wear. Very breathable! I love I can roll the sleeves up. I will use this during the Summer & it will cary over into Fall just great.
I love the classic sports design. It is a trend that never ends. I can see me wearing this to our local Carolina Mudcats or Durham Bulls games soon! Not to mention my renewed commitment to walking.
Dixie Dreamin also offers Faith themed shirts. What an awesome way to share what you believe in while out in about in public.
Now if this is not funny! I love this very pink shirt with the saying below. I have sported this a few times already and got some giggles. Every one should have a funny saying t-shirt in their closet too.
The fit of this shirt is my favorite cut for a T-shirt and I plan on using it a lot this Spring & Summer.
Now for part 3 we will be making 2 crafts. We will make two winter fashion accessories out of the sleeves of the sweater. You simply cut each sleeve we cut off the sweater in half. You will then have two wrist pieces & two upper arm pieces. We will be making with the more narrow wrist pieces some finger-less gloves. All you do is slid it on your hand and figure out where you want your thumb whole to be. Then take them off and cut and opening on the side of the glove. ( hint) I found out on one glove I cut along the seem and it does not unravel if you cut in middle. It unravels a tiny bit if you cut on side out right like I did in this picture either way works. You can always fabric glue the thumb whole too if you want but with mine I did not and it works fine!
Next just take and flip the edges inside to adjust ever long you want them and fabric glue in place. Or you can hot glue if you do not plan to keep them a long time. I wanted mine fluffy so I made it accordingly. These are so very comfy & warm & fast to make! No knitting or sewing.
While at it take the other half of the sleeve and make matching boot cuffs! You only need to really fabric glue the part your going to roll on the out side. Just the lower edge to prevent little ravels. The inside part that will be stuffed inside your boot you do not have to worry about unless you want to. Then just place over your jeans before you put the boot on. Put the boot on the roll some of it over the boot thats IT! Easy and done in minutes and it's so cute with the finger-less gloves.
I started my purging earlier this year by decluttering my jewelry & got rid of a lot. You can view what I had left to use with these seen above clothing items. I will not be buying any jewelry and making it work. You can read my 2015 Goal Capsule Wardrobe Jewelry Reveal HERE
I have gotten rid of bags of clothing. I only saved what I wear & my favorites for this winter. For some reason it was hard to get rid of everything but yet freeing. I plan to pair my clothing down even more. But for now this is my comfortable spot, ( just for now). If you saw how much I have gotten rid of over the last 2 months you'd see I have come a long way!!
Shown above are all my 12 sweaters, 6 button up shirts, 8 other shirts, 2 turtle necks, 5 skirts, one pair of jeans ( I also had a pair in the wash & one pair I was wearing so I own 3 pairs) one black dress that fits me great & can serve as multipurpose for different events. All of my items are mix and match! So the possibilities are there to mix up & have variety. That's it. I do have a few capri's & shorts but those do not count for this season so they are in storage.
Shown below are my t-shirts & half sleeve shirts in total of 21.
So my total complete wardrobe is 58 pieces total not counting a few items listed below that do not count. My goal was to get it to under 60! Most of what I have above will be transitional to spring like my short sleeve button up shirts & skirts I just won't wear the leggings etc like I do in winter.
Not shown here was the outfit I was wearing at the time I took inventory of my clothes after my major purging. Also not shown was my work out clothes, & night clothes & tank tops I wear for layering these do not have to count in the capsule wardrobe. All of those got purged as well & only my basic favs where left. I now have more room and it is truly freeing. I no longer worry about what to wear. No matter what I grab it all matches.
Ok the process has started in the building of my capsule wardrobe & I wanted to update you. I layed out all of what I kept after purging a lot out. But first if you remember my last post on Jewelry ( you can find it here) you will remember I am starting there first before moving on to clothing in building a capsule. I have paired down a lot. I have not purchased anything new I wanted to make due for the new year with what I already had. I have a few basic earrings & a few basic necklaces & statement pieces. I also hung on to a few real pieces that belonged to my mother when she was alive that will not be worn in the capsule but used as heir looms & only worn at weddings etc. ( not pictured above). The only real jewelry I did show in the picture is my beloved Pandora bracelet I wear often. I left a few other small real jewelry (that will also be heir looms & special occasion wear) out because this post is mainly about my daily wear. I also went through my scarves & got rid of most of them because I never wore them. I kept a few basic ones I lean more towards wearing that can match almost anything. I am liking the extra free space! I am not feeling as overwhelmed in making choices now when I want an accessory. This is the deepest jewelry sweep I have ever done since I have been an adult!
I got rid of a LOT a year ago when we moved thinking job well done. But after living here a year and never touching almost all of what is left it made me realize I do not need it and I need to let it go. Simplifying is a journey for sure. It is one I am learning more about each step of the way. It still may look like a lot but really compared to what it was this is a very small collection. I used to have enough to start my own thrift store! Haha! I might even down size yet again in a month or two but for now this is it and I will see how I use these pieces this year with out purchasing any thing else. This will be a great challenge. These pieces I feel I can really mix & match with my future capsule wardrobe I am working on.
If you do not know what a capsule wardrobe is it is only a few essential items that will never go out of style that you can mix & match. I discovered more about them on Youtube recently and this topic simply fascinated me. One of the Youtubers that inspired me most was LightbyCoCo. Check her out. She has some great videos on living light & simple period!
I want to live a simpler life. I want to live with less stuff. I open my closet and never know what to wear. Half of what I own no longer fits me well or I am not satisfied with the looks. Why do I still have all this stuff? I want to feel confident when I put on my clothes. I want to know what to wear ahead of time. I want to have more room to put things. So a capsule wardrobe is the key for me. I have a few good quality items but I need to replace somethings with good ones. I have a lot of worn out things. Also a capsule wardrobe is not large. Keep it simple & small. You can have a capsule wardrobe for each season as needed. I will be speaking more on my capsule journey this year & sharing that with you in the days to come. But for now I will focus on jewelry.
A year ago I got rid of a lot of my stuff when I moved, but simply not enough. I now live in an apartment in the city with not much room. I do not even wear half of what jewelry I have left.... so why am I holding on to that too? I need more space in this place so most of the jewelry is going to be given away.
This was the perfect time for Pearl & Clasp to send me a pair of white pearl freshwater earrings to try out. As you know pearls will never go out of style so this is perfect for my go to earring of choice. I can dress up or down with pearls. Simple is better. They are stunning & timeless. These particular earrings only run about $24 at their web site so they are very affordable. They offer many more options as well. Check them out to see the variety options for your wardrobe.
I will be fine tuning my capsule jewelry collection in the days to come and I will share more of that with you as well in future blog posts. You will however for sure see these earrings in that collection because they are simply fabulous & classic. I can wear these easily with so many things. This will be my one of my staple earring sets for my capsule collection.
Save the top half of the shirt to cut little strips to wrap up sections as you would like for the ornate look.
That is it! Enjoy looking good for less!
Fashion tips I have for you today:
I was asked by Cate and Chloe to review their monthly VIP subscription plan. It is called the Cate and Chloe Vip. They give you each month for one low price 2 shipments of jewelery values at $200 for only $39.99 for the both & free shipping & other VIP benefits. You can visit their web site to view themed categories you would like to choose for your VIP plan or you can have random. The site is so much fun & might I say very pretty to look at.
As you can see in the above picture I was pleasantly surprised when it came wrapped like a gift and not just a shipment in a boring box. Inside, this is what I found! My favorite colors of black & white tissue paper and a hand labeled note & a cute little ribbon black box. I felt like it was a special occasion! It really made me smile and made my day. Who wouldn't want to get something this fun in the mail?!
Here I am modeling my new Diana "Divine" necklace. It was inspired by Princess Diana. It has a 3ct CZ stone on an 18" Sterling Silver chain. I can wear this with any outfit to get it just that little something beautifully extra it needs. This adds a little fun to the day. I just love the pear shape of the stone. I love the length of this necklace. I think the customer service is outstanding as well!
Are you a busy career woman, mom, or stay at home mom,who would love some fun & excitement coming in the mail to change things up a bit? It really made me feel special when I opened my box. This is something that will save you so much time in trying to find the right accessories for your clothing. Do something nice for yourself! You work hard!
I have a teen who has longed for the day she attends a prom or dance. She thinks that is going to be the it moment of her life! She is excited about formal dresses! She can't get enough of looking at them and dreaming. I can't blame her they are fun to look at but a lot of times when I see the price I gasp with disbelief in shock. You know what I mean moms?! But recently, she saw with me the DressFirst.com web site and fell in love. As a mom I have always since she was young, taught her how to be a lady and be modest. I love the dresses they provide at DressFirst.com because they are so pretty yet cover up! These dresses are dreamy and they offer a grand selection! I think one reason girls love dresses like this and long for the events they can wear them to is because it makes them for one night feel like a true princess. But we know they all truly are anyways! Right moms! Now what's great about these prom dresses is that you can wear them to other events besides the prom. You can wear them for formals, dances, balls or other special events. They even offer wedding, cocktail, bridesmaid & evening gowns. They provide discount prom dresses for any budget. Right now for a limited time they are even offering free shipping, now how can you beat that. The web site is easy to use and understand. Now I am not afraid of the price when my teen finds her prom dress when that day comes! Here below of some samples of some of my personal favorites. Aren't they gorgeous dresses! I love the colors and cuts. Simple & elegant. They do offer more flashy if that is your flare too!
I tried to take a self picture of my new gift so totally forgive the quality. My mother in law sent me a box of gifts just for me! I wanted to share my favorite item with you all. I love the scarf necklace combo! Its by Wrapsody in Hues. What a sweet lady she is to share some joy with me this week! Eeeekkkk I love it! Unexpected blessings!
