One of the Charities my family has loved to take part of each year is Smaritian's Purse Operation Christmas Child.
The web site says this:
Samaritan’s Purse has changed the lives of children through Operation Christmas Child since 1993. Every year, generous people across the world lovingly pack shoe boxes with gifts – simple, yet powerful messages of God’s unconditional love.
And when a child opens a shoe box, they’re opening more than a present lovingly prepared just for them. They’re opening up their community to a world of life-changing opportunities.
You fill each box with gifts for the age group you choose of a male or female. You can do as many boxes as you wish. This year we payed the shipping of the box which is around 7 dollars this year, online. When you pay online you can print a label with a bar code , in which you can track your box and know what country it will go to! You can see an example of the tag on our box above in the first picture.
My kids over the years have enjoyed filling them with gifts and now that my girl is older she loves being creative in packing it as full as she can without breaking the box and allowing the lid to sit flat! LOL This is such a great way to get kids of ALL ages involved in what Christmas is really all about!
My family also enjoys drop off day at the church. Our church is the largest in the city so we are a collection center for the cities boxes. My kids and I love helping to sort & pack these boxes in to larger boxes and labeling them & counting them to load on 18 wheelers, to go on to the processing center in Boone, NC before they are shipped world wide!
