I am getting back into sewing. I do very simple and basic projetcs that anyone can do. I will be sharing with you frugal sew easy projects in the coming months. I do not even know all the sewing terms but I am on a journey to learn. I want to share with you my first project I have done in a while. Its a Dollar Tree travel case! This is the easiest yet cutest first project. Its so very useful for organization. You can use these little nifty & frugal travel cases to carry makeup, for kids to carry markers & crayons or small toys! So many uses you can use these for. This case only cost a dollar to make! First you go to the Dollar Tree and grab a cloth place mat like the one I have, the sturdy type. Get the color you desire. Also, if you have ribbon at home great if not The Dollar Tree has some. I found its easier and lasts longer if you get cloth type ribbon rather than package wrap ribbon! You could even do these as gifts and get themed ribbon.
I chose these because they are very easy to work with while being sturdy to hold things, and very washable if need be. For your first step, fold like in the picture above. Next sew only from the edge of the fold to the end of the mat to make pockets. Plan ahead of time what you will use your case for so you know how big or small to make your pockets. Just sew your straight lines to make the pockets! Also be sure to sew each end up to close it in.
Next cut your ribbon about 32 inches long. Fold it in half with the wrong side facing out if you have a ribbon with print on it. Next simply sew at the fold of the ribbon and attach it to the end of the right hand side of the case if your right handed OR to the left if your left handed! I made the mistake of folding mine with my print out. You will need to not do that so when you close your case up your print shows pretty! But mine still worked out ok for my first one!
You are now done! To try it out place your items in the case like I did then start from the end opposite of the ribbon and roll till you meet the ribbon. Take the split ribbon one on one side one on the other and wrap around your case to tie. This little case is amazing! I did a test to see if stuff will fall out. If you roll it well nothing falls out! So make sure you sew your pockets to fit your items well!
Now you have a finished homemade travel case! This is such a cute and easy sewing project. These make great goodie filled gifts too! You can't beat the Dollar Tree & easy crafting. I just love fast simple projects.
